"Hello World!"
For many people who code, this is where it all begins.
A tiny greeting on a screen. Nothing impressive at first glance.
But I've always loved what it represents. You write a few lines of code somewhere in your own little workspace, and suddenly there is the possibility that someone, somewhere else in the world, might use what you built.
My fascination for coding dates back to my early childhood. I still remember that we were one of the first families in our circle to have a computer at home. My dad developed software for companies and introduced me to coding through tiny Visual Basic projects.
My big achievement back then was drawing a balloon using code and making it move from left to right across the screen.
To be honest, at seven, I didn't fully understand the power of that. I could have drawn the balloon faster with a pen, so why bother typing in all those hieroglyphs?
But something stuck.
I have kept this fascination for code as a way to build something out of nothing. A few lines on a screen could suddenly become movement, interaction and automated workflows.
Over the past years, I kept building. First websites, then more complex web applications, my first iOS app, marketing systems, tracking infrastructures and client projects.
Some years ago, I started my journey as a solo freelancer in marketing. To maximize my productivity, I found myself using many of the established productivity and time tracking tools. And as a heavy user, I can say that some were good, but none of them ever fully matched the way I actually work.
At the same time, I felt like I had missed out on a good chunk of software evolution. The years moved on, and so did technology. For quite some time, I stayed close to the tools I knew, mainly because they helped me get my client work done.
But I strongly felt that I needed to step back into learning new things.
So I was looking for a real challenge. Something exciting enough to get me started.
And that's how it happened naturally: the birth of Fluentime.
Fluentime is the project that has made me start each day with enthusiasm for a little over a year now.
I launched it with a simple goal in mind:
Bring myself up to speed with the technologies and workflows I wanted to understand more deeply — from Swift and Postgres to AI architectures — all while building an app that solves a real problem in my own daily work.
But I didn't want to build another feature-bloated time tracking app. Quite the opposite.
I wanted to build something simple, yet genuinely powerful.
An intuitive time tracking app with a calendar-based interface. One I can also control using my voice. One where AI rewrite helps me turn rough notes into professional descriptions — short enough for an invoice and clear enough for the client.
I wanted to track billable hours and profitability at a glance. I wanted calendar integrations, bookkeeping workflows and the option to onboard clients through personalized dashboards.
As development progressed, I realized I might not be the only person who could find this useful.
Something clicked.
"Hello World" was no longer just a placeholder on a screen.
Code became something real. A product that might save someone time, reduce admin work and make their working day a little easier.
So here it is:
Hello world, say hi to Fluentime!
I'd love for you to try it, test it, challenge it and tell me what you think.
And if you know freelancers, consultants, agencies or teams who struggle with time tracking and client reporting, please spread the word.
This is a very personal project, and your support truly means a lot to me.
Now I'd love to see where it goes.
